Assortment & Demand Planner

(Fulltime, 38 hours)
Are you an experienced Assortment-, Merchandise- or Demand Planner that likes to work in a rapid growing environment? We offer you to share your experience, have impact and help us build our brand new Commercial Planning team!

Commercial Planning is a recently founded department and assortment & demand planning supports the Buyers in planning and buying the right assortment, and identify risks and opportunities. It will also calculate impact of commercial activities, like new buys, promo and presentation, to feed into assortment planning and to inform other departments like Supply Chain and stores to be able to make it happen. We aim to grow to a team of about 5 - 8 people in next 2 years, depending on the development of the department and the added value it will deliver. Currently the Commercial Planning focuses on bringing assortment and demand planning live in a pilot environment, but for next years an ambitious roadmap is drafted to get these planning aspects to a higher level. 

What you will do every day as an Assortment & Demand Planner?

Assortment planning provides insight and actions in the short- and mid-term assortment, while demand planning calculates demand forecasts for new articles and impact of commercial activities on existing assortment. With this planning capabilities you link the commercial demand to the supply chain department.

Key tasks and responsibilities are: 

  • creating a demand forecast for new assortment, taking into account a broad set of influencing factors like seasonality, timing, product improvements, existing assortment and trends (on the various levels like store, country or DC level); 
  • support Buyers in analyzing assortment gaps, possible issues and article trends, proposing commercial actions and assortment adjustments
  • align with supply chain planning to identify possible impacts on demand, adjustments in start dates and understand possible supply issues impacting assortment planning;
  • connect category level plans to overall sales and financial objectives, highlight areas of risk and provide alternate recommendations;
  • forecast expected promo sales for planned promo’s and define impact of other commercial activities and trends on existing assortment,  in close collaboration with Buyer;
  • play an active role in the selection and development of assortment planning and demand planning tools;
  • overall support in developing a mature, stable and reliable Commercial Planning department.

The Assortment & Demand Planner is supportive in setting up and implementing this new function in the Action Commerce department and reports to the Head of Commercial Planning.

What we are looking for in an Assortment & Demand Planner

Since the team is brand new and lots of development is still needed, we are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to bring experience and spirit to drive success! Someone who is highly analytical and has well established communication skills to be able to effectively collaborate with Buyers and other stakeholders. Next to this, someone who challenges current working methods and setup proposals to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce complexity.

Besides that we require:

  • Bachelor or academic background with preferably mathematical or statistical focus.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience within demand or merchandising planning (or a minimum of 5 years of inventory planning or replenishment planning) in an international retail environment or trade company (preferably non-food or fashion).
  • Advanced Excel experience is required.
  • Fluently in English, high level second languages Dutch, German or French preferred.
