GL Controller

(Fulltime – 38 hrs) 
“As a GL Controller you are able to take care of the bookkeeping independently. Your tasks vary from accurate bookkeeping, to supporting the preparation of reports. You do this together with your team of colleagues, where everyone has the responsibility for a number of national and / or foreign entities".

This is your daily action

As a GL Controller you are part of the Financial Shared Service Center and you report to the Team Lead General Ledger. You are responsible for accurate and timely accounting, and based on this, you analyze the financial processes. You evaluate the (potential) bottlenecks, advise on improving certain processes and procedures, and you supervise the implementation of improvements. In this role you will be fully responsible for 1 or 2 small entities and the intercompany flow. 

On a daily basis, you are working on the reconciliation of ledger accounts and the preparation of balance sheet specifications. During the periodic close you prepare accruals, do the first analysis of the result and the final result will be determined in consultation with the country controllers or Finance Managers. You take care of the preparation of PBC lists and check the delivery of documents in preparation for the annual audits. Besides that you participate in-department projects, support within the FSSC and share your knowledge. In addition to payroll reconciliation, you also do VAT reconciliation and perform internal audit checks.

In your work you have a lot of internal contact with colleagues from the tax department, the financial controllers at the international head office as well as the different countries. This implies that you will be visiting foreign head offices as well. Externally you maintain contact with auditors and regulatory authorities.

Our Finance department currently consists of around 70 specialists in various roles. Our FSSC is responsible for all financial and accounting affairs of our international organization. Our Bank & Treasury team manages all our cash flows and Business Controlling supports the business by providing financial advice with respect to our store operations, commercial control, supply chain and financial control. We provide important management information as well as challenge the business with our analyses to further our process optimization. A GL Controller at Action is stress resistant, flexible, proactive, has analytical skills and can function well within a team. You also have a great sense of responsibility and you keep the overview during busy and hectic periods.

And furthermore:

  • HBO working and thinking level, education towards MBA or SPD;
  • You have at least 3-5 years’ of relevant work experience in a financial department;
  • Experience with accounting systems;
  • Experience with intercompany flows;
  • Good command of the English language, other languages are an advantage.
