Senior Inbound Container Planner

(38 hours per week)

The Supply Chain Inbound department takes care of all the logistics between suppliers and warehouses in Asia and Europe. This department is responsible for the Direct Import flow between Asia and Europe and is also developing a multi-layer network for Action in Europe and Asia with Hubs and Crossdocks. 

The department focuses on an excellent execution by optimizing and developing the processes at supply chain import, the Hub and Crossdock and in the network as a whole.

The Senior inbound container planner is reporting to the Operational Manager Import & Ocean Freight. 

Purpose of the job

The senior inbound container planner is responsible to create and maintain an efficient flow of (Direct Import) containers from the Far East to Hubs and DC’s. Monitor on time delivery to support healthy stock levels and high availability at the lowest costs. Pro-active communication with freight forwarders, carriers, DC’s, Hubs and Supply Chain Planning to ensure a stable planning. The Senior inbound container planner handles a transport flow, but he/she also monitors the complete flow in order get a uniform and efficient process all over the supply chain and supports other inbound container planners.

Your daily Actions

Container planning
You will be responsible for monitoring on a daily basis the on time delivery of Direct Import containers against lowest cost possible, and you will follow up on delivery issues on a daily basis. You’ll assist and coach other inbound container planners where needed.

You will also follow up the Origin process to ensure on-time booking, on-time production and on time departure and you will be in contact with a sourcing agent if escalation is required. Additionally, you will instruct LSP’s (freight forwarders) about shipment planning, means of transportation, deadlines and other required handlings. You will be responsible for exception management for all milestones to minimize impact on required delivery date. Moreover, you will maintain central container flow registration in Excel, SAP and Import Control Tower for all critical milestones in Origin and Destination process. You will monitor and maintain KPI's on a daily basis. You will safeguard on-time handover of documentation for custom clearing purposes, and you will check and approve invoicing of all Direct Import LSP’s. You will inform Supply Chain Planning, Capacity, DC’s and Hubs about the short and midterm volumes and requirements to ensure correct inbound capacity.

Stock control
You will be responsible for informing Stockplanning about expected delivery issues, empty stock or oversupply. Additionally, you will create proposals to adjust the container planning to anticipate changing demand or to balance out stock levels, and you will support creation of future shipping plans by maintaining a central administration of average lead times of all import legs.

Leadership
You will play a senior role in the team, replacing the Operations Manager if necessary in operational matters. You will coach and onboard new team members, and will represent the department in meetings with other departments.

Problem Solving
You will signal core issues, conduct thorough analysis and suggest uniform process improvement in order to optimize overall performance, substituted by data report where possible. Also, you will make Lean proposals for efficient and effective working methods and implement these, including process descriptions and training. You will pro-actively consults planners for improvement area’s and investigate root causes for issues reported by planners.

Impact
You will communicate and cooperate with neighboring departments such as DC’s, commercial and Supply Chain Planning in order to achieve common goals.

Who you are

You are very organized, able to structure activities, stick to agreements within deadlines and according to guidelines. You work efficiently and effectively, also when under time pressure. You have strong communication skills (communication with internal and external stakeholders). You are eager to learn  from colleagues to get a broad understanding of the processes and procedures, and you have good numerical skills.

Furthermore you have:

  • Bachelor degree 
  • 5-7 years of relevant work experience, 
  • Very good English in speaking and writing
  • Dutch speaking/writing is a pre
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel
