DC Set up Team Specialist

The DC Set-up Team is part of the Supply Chain organization. The DC Set-up Team Manager reports to the Manager Expansion. The DC Set-up Team is responsible for the start-up of the new DCs in the various countries where Action is active. The DC Set-up Team works as a project team, and as such is responsible for the proper implementation of the processes by the logistics personnel in a new DC. The Set-up Team starts up the operation with a new organization, ensures that the organization runs well while leading, supervising and guiding the organization until it is stable. The Set-up Team will not leave nor stop managing until the operation is running according to the Action standards with regard to productivity and quality.

Position objective

The actual starting-up of both the operational and administrative aspect of a new DC from the opening, to the moment that the proper quality of receipt and delivery is guaranteed.

Educating, training and managing the departments and employees who will be responsible for the logistical operation of the new DCs. This concerns the procedures, work methods, processes and systems which apply to Action. 

Training/coaching must be done in such a way that after the departure of the Set-up Team, the logistical operations can be independently and successfully run by the managers and employees of the new DC. The Set-up Team will not leave nor stop managing until the operation is running according to the Action standards with regard to productivity and quality.

In addition to transferring and securing knowledge, the DC Set-up Team Specialist, during the start-up phase of the DC, is also closely involved in the actual execution and implementation of the entire logistics process in accordance with strategic policy and within the framework of the set (financial) targets. 

When not training employees or implementing a new warehouse, the DC Set-up team Specialist will be based in Zwaagdijk for a fixed number of working days (up to 5) a week to be agreed on with the DC Set-up team manager. During these periods the DC Set-up team Specialist may be assigned to projects within the Action organization in compliance with the specialism and area of responsibility.

This is your daily action

As a Set up Team Specialist you will be providing input for a project plan in the start phase for the opening of a DC. The project plan includes the milestones with the corresponding deadlines and a detailed plan, identifying the responsible person for each step. You will know and execute the processes and describe these in process descriptions and work orders. 

Additionally, you will be creating a training plan with regard to the education and training of the departments and employees who will be responsible for running the logistical operations of the new DCs. This concerns the procedures, work methods, processes and systems which apply to Action. You will be developing and executing the training/education for each department/process/position so that the training can be used when starting up the new DCs.

Moreover, you will be training new employees according to the training plan. Training must be done in such a way that the logistical operations can be started under the guidance of the Set-Up team and/or an experienced employee, per department. Continued guidance will be provided until the new organization is running independently and successfully by the managers and employees of the new DC.

Furthermore, you will be signaling and solving any upcoming problems in a timely manner to achieve good quality of receiving and supplying goods.

You will be doing inventory and tracking (hours) data and relevant key figures, analyzing and assessing this data and, when necessary, providing the information to stakeholders, and you will be taking part in function related projects and support needed circumstances.

Furthermore you have:

  • Higher professional education working and thinking level, based on a BA education supplemented with a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a management position in a logistics environment.
  • Project management expertise
  • Analytical skills
  • Expertise in logistical processes and processes in a Distribution Centre  
  • Excellent knowledge of SAP (E)WM and Microsoft Office
  • Excellent knowledge of English and preferably, German and French
  • Experience working in an international environment at a multinational company
