Data Scientist (Supply Chain)

(Full-time, 32-38 hours per week)

This position resides at the intersection of Data Science and Business, where your contributions empower diverse business stakeholders to make informed decisions based on data.

Your daily action

In this position, you will be immersed in the analytical realm on the business side. Collaborating with fellow data analysts and scientists, you'll engage with individuals across the entire supply chain organization. Your primary responsibility is to translate data into tangible value for them. Beyond possessing an advanced analytics skill set, a key aspect is your ability to comprehend the critical drivers within the Supply Chain. You will actively participate in cross-functional project teams most of the time. However, there will be instances when you'll contribute to initiatives led by our own team, aimed at exploring or challenging the status quo. This dynamic involvement is crucial not only for the advancement of Action but also for personal growth.

Your tasks will encompass:

  • Crafting simulation models to replicate processes within our Supply Chain. These simulations provide insights into the implications of potential changes and may prompt process redesigns. For instance, developing simulations for various put-away strategies led to a tangible modification in our warehouse processes.
  • Formulating optimization models to determine the most effective and efficient methodologies. This involves both linear optimization models and heuristic-based solutions. An exemplary model is one that defines optimal pick routes in our warehouses.
  • Engaging in the development of predictive and machine learning models to enhance preparedness for future scenarios. These models can aid operations in planning workforce requirements or assist process managers in (re)designing their processes.
  • Conducting intricate (statistical) analyses to trace relationships, understand the effects of changes, and identify areas for improvement. For instance, investigating how congestion in warehouses impacts productivity and devising preventive measures.

Meet your team

As a Data Scientist, you will be an integral member of the Supply Chain Support & Processes department, directly reporting to the Manager of Supply Chain Analytics. Within the expanding European supply chain network of Action, the SC Analytics team spearheads Business Analytics responsibilities. The scope of this role spans the entire End-to-End process, commencing from our suppliers, traversing our hub, cross-dock, and warehouse network, and culminating in the delivery at our stores. Embracing a role in the Action Supply Chain entails thriving in a dynamic and highly motivated environment that consistently seeks enhancements. This involves tackling questions such as: How can we optimize our supply chain network? What constitutes the most efficient and effective execution of processes? With a team comprising seasoned data scientists and analysts, collaboration is key. By leveraging collective experience and knowledge, you'll work together to achieve optimal results for Action while fostering continuous learning from one another.
