Meet Vi Le

“Working at Action is never boring and extremely fast paced, with the product range changing continuously.”

Vi Le, Product Technologist

Hi! Please introduce yourself!

My name is Vi Le and I live in Purmerend. I was born in the Philippines from Vietnamese parents. We came to the Netherlands when I was 1, so I’m Dutch to the core. I started my career as a technical specialist at a food ingredient manufacturer in Koog aan de Zaan, where I evolved to Technical Manager for Europe. Two years ago, I joined Action as a Product Technologist.

What is it you do as a Product Technologist?

I’m responsible for the quality, compliance and sustainability program of Food & Drinks and Pet Food, for which I work closely with our buyers. And as I’m responsible for the safety warnings and labelling, I team up with our packaging designers as well, making true works of art.

I also deal with issues raised by authorities. As I used to be on the other side of the fence, I know all about how manufacturers work, the standards and certifications and what’s needed for product analyses. I know what questions needs to be asked and what analyses must be performed. Furthermore, I am leading benchmark projects to continuously enhance our products regarding composition and tasting. For all of this, I work with our various suppliers.

What I really love about my job is that our products are sold all over Europe. Even a typically Dutch product like stroopwafels (syrup waffles). I get to see the results of my work on the shelves in each and every Action store.

Why did you join Action?

Action approached me. Action’s story, the culture and mindset, the fast-paced growth in so many countries, while keeping things simple. I just couldn’t miss it. I told myself I had to do it.

What surprised you most about working at Action?

Working at Action is never boring and extremely fast paced, with the product range changing continuously. And the way I work and meet my goals is entirely up to me. What’s really gratifying is working with so many different experts from different departments, like marketing, sustainability and supply chain management. They inspire me to embed their work in quality.

I’ve been able to develop, introduce, implement and validate processes that facilitate our rapid growth across Europe.

What achievements are you proud of?

I’ve been able to develop, introduce, implement and validate processes that facilitate our rapid growth across Europe. I’m also very proud of having obtained certification for Food & Drink and Pet Food.

What’s the atmosphere like?

At Quality, we each have our own expertise. We brainstorm regularly, which helps us look beyond our own training and makes us stronger. We support each other, not just professionally but also emotionally, and often go on outings together and have fun. As we are culturally very diverse, we learn to communicate in ways that are respectful to all. Because the perception of respect differs widely, from being direct to being humble.

Any tips for future colleagues?

I would advise people to spend time on getting to know Action’s culture. To absorb our values, the way we communicate and how things work in this very dynamic environment. And then enjoy it!

Are you ready for a challenge within our Buying department?
