Group Financial Controller

Action – Zwaagdijk-Oost, North Holland, Netherlands

(Full-time, 38 hours per week)

As a Group Financial Controller at Action, you can bring the quality of our accounting and reporting to an even higher level, both nationally and internationally. In this role, you improve processes and align them with the rapid growth and increasing complexity of our organization. In addition, you streamline the annual audit process for both the Action group and all countries in which we operate. You ensure that financial control projects run smoothly and steer them toward optimal results. A responsible and varied role in which you truly contribute, with your experience and knowledge, to a great company that is not only a leading market player today but will remain so in the future.

Your daily actions

As a Group Financial Controller, you play an indispensable role in our internal and external reporting, nationally and internationally.
You ensure that at Action’s head office we always have an accurate, complete, and timely numerical overview of all activities across our entire international group. You report on this internally and externally in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. As an experienced financial controller, you will understand that this is a key part of your role.

What truly makes this job worthwhile is your leading role in change and further improvement in the field of financial control. In the coming period, we want to take major steps in your area of expertise and grow as a financial discipline alongside — and further guide — Action’s success. This includes critically reviewing how we can better support our business and management through our expertise, redesigning processes where possible, and involving your colleagues and the wider organization in these improvements. Additionally, we want to embed our social responsibility broadly within our operations. In this role, you will also have the opportunity to help shape Action’s ESG reporting.

Alongside helping to build a future-proof organization, you regularly take the lead in projects that are essential building blocks for this goal. For example, we are currently working on making our financial closing process more efficient.
Of course, you will not do this alone. You will work closely with five colleagues within our Financial Control team — a friendly team where everyone works with a high degree of independence, while collectively taking responsibility for our key tasks for Action. You will also continuously collaborate with colleagues, departments, and management across all countries in which we operate.

This will be your team

Welcome to Finance: the home of numbers. And we have great numbers at Action. Every year we open more than 360 new stores and regularly add new distribution centers across Europe. Revenue growth? It has averaged around 20% annually in recent years. No wonder our team is full of energy.

In total, around 90 specialists work on various topics, from financial administration to reporting and from treasury to business control. We ensure that all figures are accurate, properly recorded, and that our systems and processes continue to improve in efficiency. We do this for all countries where Action operates. We also challenge business owners to broaden their perspectives. Our strong growth motivates us to continuously think ahead, build new structures, improve processes, and positively influence business results. If there is anywhere you can grow as a financial professional, it is at Action Finance.

This is you

With your helicopter view, you maintain oversight of everything happening within Action. You take immediate action when you believe something is relevant for financial control. You set sharp priorities and are highly structured in planning and organization. Your strong analytical ability is very valuable, and you remain calm under all circumstances. With strong social and communication skills, you easily interact at different organizational levels and can bring others along with your ideas for change and improvement.

Additionally, you have:

  • A university degree in Accountancy or Controlling. A (nearly) completed qualification as a Chartered Accountant or Registered Controller (RA/RC) is considered an advantage
  • At least five years of relevant experience at an accounting firm in audit practice, combined with experience in an international organization
  • Up-to-date knowledge of IFRS and consolidation
  • Preferably knowledge of reporting tools such as HFM
  • Strong verbal and written skills in Dutch and English

How we contribute to society

If you only know Action from our stores, you will discover a whole new world when you work with us. Behind the scenes, we work hard to create a positive impact on society and the environment. For example, did you know that we sponsor more than 2,000 children worldwide who grow up in SOS Children’s Villages? That our team reflects the diversity of our customers, including 161 nationalities? That we already sustainably source 70% of our wood products and 86% of our cotton? And that more than half of our stores use only energy-efficient LED lighting? Yes, that is also Action. Curious about other initiatives? Join our team and discover for yourself.
