Meet Cindy

"It's always great when we welcome a new IT colleague who fits in to the department and is happy with what we have to offer!"

Cindy Engel, corporate recruiter IT

Hi! Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Cindy, I'm 25 years old and I live in Hoorn. Back in August 2022, I started as a Corporate Recruiter or, as we now call it, a Talent Acquisition Specialist. I'm fascinated by IT; it's a huge part of society and things develop quickly. I'd like to dive deeper into that field!

What is it you do as a Corporate Recruiter?

I look for the right talent in the job market for open positions in our Technology department, such as application managers and technical specialists. My working days vary a lot. One moment I'm sending a LinkedIn message offering someone a job, and the next I'm having a coffee with a potential new colleague. I also have a lot of contact with colleagues to find out who we're looking for and what we can offer candidates. Action's international growth means the company has a great deal of diversity in terms of work activities, jobs and colleagues. And that's great!

Why did you join Action?

It's an international working environment ten minutes away from where I live. It was an opportunity I couldn't afford to miss! Not everything at Action is set in stone, however, as there's plenty of room to take the initiative.

I knew Action was big, but this big?

Has anything surprised you at Action?

I knew Action was big, but this big? In my first six months, I focused on vacancies in a range of departments, such as procurement and administration. I soon had an idea of what is behind the success of our stores. Our onboarding programme is a great example. You can take part in expert sessions, and colleagues from different departments tell you more about what their role involves. After you finish it, you'll head into our stores with a completely different outlook! Even now, I still learn something new every day.

What's the best part of your job? And what can be challenging?

Bringing people into our world and looking at which vacancies are right for them is a great feeling. I also like talking to managers who are seeking new colleagues for their department. It's always great when we welcome a new colleague who fits in to the department and is happy with what we have to offer. Recruiting new talent is a huge challenge due to scarcity in the labour market, particularly within IT.

What are you proud of at work?

The fact that, together, we're still able to fill tricky open positions. We manage to do that by never standing still and always checking whether our understanding of our target group is still in line with the market.

What's the atmosphere like?

My recruitment team focuses on filling vacancies. Yet we also work together on projects, such as creating these testimonials to show new colleagues how much fun it is to work at Action. We share lots of knowledge and help each other out to make sure we come up with new ideas and challenge each other.

Do you have any tips for future colleagues?

Our international spirit means the dynamics at work are great. As a recruiter, you have a host of tasks at Action. We also have many great specialist positions across HR. I'd say you should read more about working at Action on our careers site, and get ready to be surprised!
